Things to Do Nearby
The Vale of York is located to the west of the North York Moors, and spreads out around the ancient City of York and runs along side the Hambleton Hills. It encompasses a wide area of beautiful lush countryside, quaint villages and vibrant towns including Northallerton and Thirsk.
Visitors to the north of England are really spoiled for choice when it comes to exploring this stunning and diverse landscape. The capital of the area has to be York, a historic walled city full of culture and with a colourful history dating back to Viking times. There is so much to see and do here, lots of visitor attractions, magnificent architecture including the imposing York Minster, and a vast number of shops to explore.
To the north there is the pretty town of Thirsk, with its historic racecourse and traditional town square, complete with clock tower. The town is situated at the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales and is most well known as the home of James Herriot, the famous author and vet. The stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park provides a picturesque backdrop to the town and is brimming with natural wildlife.

We booked Ash Tree Lodge in September 2016 for a weeks rental to stay with old friends for a much needed catchup. Upon arrival and the great first impressions of the property and area that we had made the perfect choice. The log cabin was spacious & spotlessly clean, the icing on the cake was the very nice welcome basket of goodies & little extras like milk, coffee, tea etc.
The log cabin was a great size for a group of 4 people and I would imagine it could cater for 6 without many issues as there are two separate bathrooms. The living areas very spacious with lots of room & plenty of seating. The one small issue we had was the couple who were sleeping in the lounge said the sofa bed was too hard to sleep on & with it being leather was slippery. They ended up sleeping separate on the two normal sofas which were more comfortable This however was the only issue we had & will not put us off returning.
Cooking facilities in the lodge were excellent we cooked a full Sunday roast dinner. All the obvious equipment and utensils was included and we didn’t feel as though anything was missing.
If your looking for takeaway I can highly recommend the chinese in Stamford Bridge, food was excellent all fresh & tasted delicious. We also went to a pub in the village called the Three Cups, again a lovely homely pub with excellent food.

We stayed here for our anniversary wich was a surprise for my wife as we had married in n York 20 years to the day of arrival, Richard and Denise ( the owners ) welcomed us with flowers champagne and a cake, the cabbin was out of this world and deffanitly deserves 5 star rating, the location is lovely, the hot tub is brilliant and the owners can’t do enough for you, we will surely be returning in the future and would without hesitation recommend to friends and family alike.

Ash Tree Lodge is tremendous, it had everything you could need for a great stay. The welcome hamper was a really nice touch. The owner met us with a warm welcome and explained where everything was in the lodge. Hot tub amazing, didn’t want to leave it behind! Would return in a heartbeat.
